Permission has been granted for changes to plans for a north-east castle.
The Earl and Duchess of Aboyne had previously applied for an extension at Aboyne Castle.
Another application has since been lodged to amend the original proposal, which would reduce the extension from two storeys to just one.
According to a report submitted with the application, the reason for the amendment is to keep distinctive wooden balustrades that form part of a balcony.
If the extension was to go ahead, the balconies would need to be removed.

Aberdeenshire Council attached conditions to the acceptance of the application.
The developer must commission an archaeological study before work takes place, as well as ensuring any finish on the exterior is consistent with the rest of the building, to preserve the historic importance of the castle.
