The Coastguard launched a lifeboat after reports of a floating life jacket at sea.
The RNLI Peterhead Lifeboat, The Misses Robertson of Kintail, was requested to launch yesterday at 10.47am.
Its volunteer crew attended the incident after a report of an empty inflated life jacket near Rattray Head.
As the lifeboat made its way to the scene, a fishing boat reported to the coastguard that it had lost such a life jacket on Thursday night.
The lifeboat was then stood down at 11.15am, and returned to its berth at 11.40am.
An RNLI spokesman said the sea conditions were 1.5m to 2m swell, and visibility was good.
He added: “Peterhead Lifeboat is always interested to hear from the public who wishes to help save lives at sea by joining the fundraising team, or the crew.
“Those who can spare time to help raise funds to save lives at sea, or would like to become a crew member, contact the station on 01779 473331 or visit: www.rnli.org.uk”
