A rare watch worth thousands of pounds was discovered at a charity valuation day.

The Rolex GMT master watch, in yellow gold, was brought along to a fundraising event at Leith Hall Gardens and Estate near Huntly.

Its owner was astounded to learn the timepiece could be worth as much as £5,000 and has decided to put it under the hammer.

The watch will be sold at the Lyon and Turnbull auction house in Edinburgh.

Director and jewellery specialist Trevor Kyle said: “We were thrilled when this particular watch came to our attention.”
