A popular Aberdeen city centre ice cream parlour has announced it is to close.
Mad Penguin, on Netherkirkgate, made the announcement in a post on social media earlier this evening.
The team behind the venture said: “the current economic climate has beaten us.
“We aren’t going to be complaining about the oil downturn, business rates, or how the Marischal Square development opposite us is slowly suffocating the life out of all of the small businesses in this area.
“All we are going to say is that we tried, it didn’t work, but we had a blast!”
The business opened in August last year and quickly became popular.
As well as traditional gelato, Mad Penguin was known for it’s more unusual flavours including Punk IPA, Banana Cinamon and Ginger, roast garlic and more recently Buckfast sorbet.
To mark their last day, Mad Penguin had said will be giving away all their remaining gelato and coffee to customers, asking only that they make a donation to charity.
All donations will be passed on to Friends of the Special Nursery – an Aberdeen charity that supports premature babies at ARI’s neo natal unit.
