Festive drinkers are being encouraged to remember Christmas nights out “for the right reasons”.
Police say mid-to-late December is a busy time for north-east bars – but problems can arise if people drink too much.
Inspector Kenny McGeough, of the north-east licensing team, said: “During the festive period we recognise people may drink more alcohol than normal and some may become vulnerable through intoxication.
“When you are out be aware of your surroundings, who you are with and what you are drinking. Make sure this year is memorable for all the right reasons.
“Officers are working with other organisations to ensure Christmas is safe and enjoyable.
“They cannot do this alone and it is important to recognise the risk of becoming vulnerable through intoxication, a position of which can lead to harm through crime or misadventure.”
