Officers have revisited the scene of a “brutal assault” one week on.
The attack took place in Elgin and left a 44-year-old woman with a serious head injury.
Detectives spoke to motorists who may have been in the area at the time.
Around 40 drivers who use routes in the Woodside Terrace area were spoken to between 4.45am and 5.30am yesterday morning – roughly the time when the victim left her home on October 26.
The woman was wearing a light coloured jacket, blue jeans, brown boots and was carrying a black handbag.
Detective Inspector Norman Stevenson, who is leading the investigation, said: “I would like to thank the motorists that we stopped yesterday for their patience and assistance as we continue to carry out extensive inquiries into this brutal assault.
“Without being able to speak to the woman involved yet because of the severity of her injuries, we are relying on the public at this crucial time to provide us with information.”
Anyone with information can contact police on 101 or by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 in confidence.
