Two women who died after going swimming at Aberdeen Beach have today been named.
Karolina Katarzyna Pisarska, 36, and 22-year-old Luiza Koniuszy got into difficulties after entering the water at around 12.45am last Friday.
HM Coastguard teams from Aberdeen and Stonehaven were called to the scene, along with the RNLI lifeboats from Aberdeen and a search and rescue helicopter which came from Inverness.
Both women were recovered by the RNLI inshore lifeboat and given CPR at the lifeboat station before being taken to hospital by ambulance.
However, Police Scotland confirmed that, despite efforts to save them, they had both died.
Both women were originally from Poland but were living in Aberdeen.
Chief Inspector Martin Mackay today said: “Formal identification has now taken place and both women’s families have been informed. My thoughts are with them at this incredibly sad time.”
