Police name man, 29, who died in North-east motorbike crash

Police are appealing for witnesses following the crash.

A motorcyclist who died following a crash on a North-east road has been named.

Michael Reid, 29, from the Peterhead area, died after the incident involving a motorcycle on the A98 Banff to Portsoy road near its junction with the A95 Cornhill road yesterday.

It happened at about 2pm.

Road Policing Sergeant David Pirie said: “First and foremost our thoughts are with Mr Reid’s family and friends at this very sad time.

“Inquiries into the incident are still on-going and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and has not yet come forward with information to contact police on 101.”

Banff and District Councillor John Cox said: “My thoughts are with his family, friends and acquaintances – it is an absolute tragedy.

“The A98 is becoming as notorious as the A947, but obviously my thoughts are with his family at this time.”
