Drivers have been urged to not drink and drive after four motorists were stopped by police in a 24-hour period.
Road policing inspector Neil Morrison said drivers must think carefully about their actions after officers stopped the motorists in relation to alleged drink driving on Thursday.
The inspector said: “In the last 24 hours we have dealt with four individuals in relation to alleged drink driving offences in the North-east and as we typically see an increase in detections over the weekend, I am urging drivers to think carefully about their actions.
“It is still disappointing that some people do think it is safe and acceptable to get behind the wheel of a vehicle after drinking.
“We are often alerted to possible drink drivers as a result of information received from concerned members of the public. We welcome this information and I would thank those who take the time to phone and report alleged drink drivers and I would encourage this practice to continue .”
