A former north-east design studio could be turned into a coffee shop.

Plans were submitted to Aberdeenshire Council to change the former Jane’s Design Studio, Old Pier, Stonehaven, into a new cafe.

The change of use application from class one shop into class three food and drink, was made to the local authority by John G Aitken Architectural Services on behalf of The Catterline Alliance.

The building is on two floors, both of which were previously used for retail space.

If plans are accepted, the ground floor would be changed into a customer area, a toilet and a preparation and sales area.

The top floor would also consist of a customer area, and would include an office and a balcony.

Aberdeenshire Council received the request for planning permission on Thursday.

It is hoped that a decision will be made by June 25.

Members of the public are welcomed to make a comment on the proposals, which are displayed on the authority’s website.

The last date for giving an opinion on the plans is May 24.
