Plans to improve one of Aberdeen’s most congested streets

Wellington Road

Councillors are being asked to approve moving forward with potential improvements to one of Aberdeen’s most congested streets.

Wellington Road has long been a bottleneck for commuters making their way to and from industrial estates in the south of Aberdeen.

Eight options have been put forward which include an upgrade to the dual carriageway at the former HM Craiginches Prison site, shared bus and HGV lanes and new cycle lanes.

A detailed transport appraisal study has been carried out and councillors have now been asked to further refine the eight options.

This will include identifying the expected costs and benefits of each, with the aim of having one or more of them recommended for implementation.

A report to councillors on the city growth and resources committee said: “These should be deliverable and affordable, thus enabling business cases to be developed and funding sought for implementation.”

Nestrans has approved £100,000 to carry out the second study.

Members of the committee will be asked to consider the report when they meet on Tuesday.
