Plans for a new service station have been rejected by Aberdeenshire councillors.
The authority’s infrastructure services committee voted to reject the proposals for a petrol station, hotel, cafe and restaurant at Mains of Luther, Laurencekirk.
Councillors rejected the application by Luther Farm Services by 11 votes to two.
Criticism of the scheme focused on the fact drivers would have to cross the A90 dual carriageway at a narrow junction to reach the facilities.
Calli Hopkinson, director of Luther Farm Services Ltd, said: “We still feel this is a great development and is needed in the Mearns.”
She said they would consider their options.
