PLANS for a new North-east supermarket are expected to be submitted by the end of this month.
Aldi bought the former textile mill, Kirkburn Mill in Peterhead in 2008 but the site has lain empty since.
Banff and Buchan MSP Stewart Stevenson met Aldi property director Robert Stoddart to discuss development plans.
Mr Stevenson said: “Following a very productive meeting with Mr Stoddart, I am delighted Aldi considers this site to be incredibly viable and will be moving forward with their plans in the next few weeks.
“The first phase of the project will be to develop the Aldi store with car parking on part of the four-and-a-half acre site, and another unit will be set up close by for another retailer to come in.”
“Once the plans are submitted it will be up to the council to decide, but I am very encouraged that this prominent site at the entrance to the town centre could become a hub of activity again.”
