Plans for a major new development in a north-east village have been refused.

Members of the Formartine area committee voted against the plans for 113 homes in Tarves yesterday.

Councillors had been asked to approve the application by delegated grant.

A number of letters of objection – including one from Tarves Community Council – have been submitted to the local authority urging it not to approve the Scotia Homes plans.

Mid Formartine councillor Paul Johnston had moved to have the application rejected which was seconded by ward colleague Jim Gifford.

Mr Gifford said: “The area committee decided that there wasn’t enough information on the site for it to be approved.

“We are looking to see how the application would be used in the future and we feel there wasn’t enough information on this to approve.”
