PLANS to open a new supermarket on the south side of Aberdeen have been backed by council officers.
Cyan Properties Ltd has lodged an application to form a new supermarket on the current Makro building in Wellington Circle, Nigg.
Makro would continue to operate out of a smaller unit next to the proposed supermarket.
Officers have recommended councillors approve the plans on the condition the developer makes contributions for the provision of road infrastructure.
In a report to Aberdeen City Council’s planning development management committee, head planner Dr Maggie Bochel said: “The proposal to change the use to form a new supermarket would meet the demand for the provision of a new facility to the south of Aberdeen.”
Several supermarkets have expressed an interest in the site but negotiations are at an advanced stage with two major names.
