AN ONLINE petition has been launched against a proposed harbour development in Aberdeen.
Residents’ group Bay of Nigg, Torry: Our Concerns started the petition to protest against plans to expand Aberdeen Harbour by building on land at the bay.
Chairwoman of the opposition group Renee Slater, said: “There should be an independent, external survey carried out by the city council.
“A lot of people use the bay and we have a lot of support from people across the world.”
The group has concerns over air and light pollution, increased road traffic and increased noise.
They also have concerns that the proposed development could lead to further pollution.
A spokeswoman for Aberdeen Harbour said: “The environmental impact of our proposals is under scrutiny through the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) where independent organisations including SEPA, Marine Scotland, RSPB and Scottish Natural Heritage helped determine the scope and methodology.
“Once complete, the EIA will be independently assessed.”
The decision on the plans will be taken by Marine Scotland and Transport Scotland.
