Two swimmers were rescued and taken to hospital at a north-east beach.
The coastguard received a call at 7.45pm last night reporting two men in difficulty at Montrose beach.
Lifeboats were launched to help the pair who were then taken to hospital.
A spokeswoman for HM Coastguard said: “The two male casualties were recovered from the sea by the inshore lifeboat and conveyed to the lifeboat station.
“As a precaution the casualties they were transferred by Scottish Ambulance Service to Coastguard helicopter Rescue 951 which had landed on the Links and on to Ninewells hospital in Dundee for further checks.
“Conditions are not thought to be life threatening.
“Thank you to Police Scotland for their assistance in controlling the viewing public and assisting with closing down the roads in the area which allowed for safe working at the emergency landing site.”
