INDUSTRIAL action by offshore workers in the North-east could start this month, the Evening Express can reveal today.
Unite’s regional officer for offshore workers Wullie Wallace today warned the industrial ballot proposed by the union will take place in the upcoming weeks – not months.
Mr Wallace said Unite is currently gathering personal and work details of all its members in the Caterers Offshore Trade Association (COTA) and Offshore Contractors Association (OCA) in a bid to ballot.
Unions are expected to collect up-to-date information on details, including the rig members’ work to avoid being open to legal challenge by employers.
It is expected industrial action could take place as early as the end of this month.
The move comes after concerns were raised over proposed changing of rotas, reduction in pay and holidays, and job losses within the industry.
