A schoolboy from the North-east has died after falling from a tree.
Lachlan MacKenzie, 12, of Muir of Fowlis near Alford, died in the incident, which happened yesterday while he was visiting relatives in Troon.
It happened at Fullarton Park Woods in the Isle of Pin Road area of the west coast town.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “At around 3.20pm yesterday, a 12-year-old boy was seriously injured after falling from a tree in Fullarton Park Woods, Isle of Pin Road, Troon.
“Emergency services attended, however the young boy died at the scene.
“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Alford Academy head teacher Moira Milne said: “We are deeply saddened by this news today.
“Lachlan had settled into his first year at Alford Academy very well and this will come as a huge shock to the school and wider community.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”
