North-east schools close and transport affected due to Storm Caroline

North-east schools are closed this morning due to high winds.

Portlethen Academy has been closed as a precaution, with winds of up to 90mph forecast.

An Aberdeenshire Council spokesman said: “Portlethen Academy will be closed to all staff and pupils  as a precautionary measure due to the anticipated high winds expected as part of Storm Caroline.

“We apologise for the inconvenience and will provide further updates through the day.”

Ordiquhill School in Banff has also closed to everyone due to the weather conditions.

A planned school trip has also been cancelled and set to be rescheduled.

Logie Coldstone School in Deeside is not set to open to pupils until 10am. A power cut is currently affecting the area.

Changes have also been made to school transport routes for Mintlaw Academy and Aboyne Academy due to Storm Caroline but the schools are open to all pupils.

There has been changes to school transport routes for Inverurie Academy.  Stagecoach will not be operating any double decker buses on the school transport routes. The SS649A run (from Insch) will run using a single decker coach.  The SS649B run (from Chapel of Garioch & Pitcaple) will divert in order to pick up some additional passengers.
