An initiative to put north-east town centres at the heart of decision making has received a national award.
Aberdeenshire Council’s economic development team took the silver Scottish Government Excellence Award at the COSLA Excellence Awards 2018 for its Town Centre First Principle.
The initiative sees available resources targeted to priority town centre sites and puts them at the forefront when making decisions.
Leader of the council Jim Gifford said: “This is a long-term plan to ensure our town centres have importance beyond planning.
“We want our centres to be vibrant spaces where people come to visit, live, work and shop.
“It is fantastic news that we have received recognition for being the first local authority to take this forward in such an ambitious way.”
The Town Centre First Principle was approved as a policy by the council in December 2016 and launched in June 2017.
