ABERDEEN’S main street could be revitalised, following the news the local council will be able to reduce business rates for firms.
Councillor Jackie Dunbar SNP group leader in Aberdeen City Council, says the move could give Union Street the boost it needs.
She said: “This measure is what we need to start bringing the sparkle back to our Granite City.
“The Scottish Government has given Aberdeen a wonderful opportunity to target the areas that need a helping hand.
“We can start by breathing new life into Union Street by making use of the decentralisation of business rates.
“We will now be able to target certain sectors, like independent retailers, if they open up in the shops along Union Street.
“Now we have the ability to really make a difference; to encourage folk to start new businesses, which will lead on to create new jobs and revitalise Union Street.
“Aberdeen City Council needs to be thinking creatively to help build new businesses and new jobs.”
