New pitch to be opened at North-east sports centre

A school football tournament will mark the reopening of a sports facility in a North-east town.

The all-weather pitch at Turriff Sports Centre received a funding boost of more than £210,000 for a new surface.

A seven-a-side comp-etition, which starts at 9.30am on Tuesday, will take place at the facility featuring teams from Banff Academy, Meldrum Academy, Turriff Academy and the Gordon Schools in Huntly.

Councillor Anne Stirling, Aberdeenshire Council communities committee chairwoman, said: “I am thrilled that Turriff Sports Centre now has a fantastic state-of-the-art art playing surface ready for the public to use.”
