A “CRITICAL” component of the Third Don Crossing has arrived in the Granite City – in the form of 30-foot long steel beams.
The beams, which will form part of the bridge structure, made their way to the site at Grandholm from Darlington yesterday, and were given a police escort through the city along several major roads.
And site agent Iain MacPherson, of contractors Balfour Beatty, said it will only be a matter of weeks before the Third Don Crossing starts to take shape.
He said: “This forms the critical path of the project.
“It will be around July 6-13 that we want to think they will be in place.
“There will be some welding and joining to do, we have a ‘permanent formwork’ system that will be putting the concrete over the top.

“That’s the next critical thing – the Don Crossing itself, the south side especially.”
