Almost 500 people booked appointments at north-east hospitals last week – then did not turn up or cancel.
NHS Grampian said 381 people were no-shows at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in the week beginning April 1 – 5% of all appointments.
At Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin, 61 people – 5% of all appointments – were no shows and the figure was 56 – 9% of all appointments at Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital.

An NHS Grampian spokesman said: “We appreciate circumstances can lead to patients not being able to attend and occasionally they aren’t able to let us know.
“On most occasions, however, we would strongly urge people to cancel when they know they won’t be able to make it.
“Missed inpatient appointments can mean valuable theatre time is lost. Every uncancelled appointment results in another patient not being seen.”
