TWO books by a North-east illustrator have been named among the top selling books of 2015.
The adult colouring books by Johanna Basford, 32, who is originally from Auchnagatt, near Ellon, came 15th and 16th in the top sellers for the year in the UK.
The data, provided by Nielsen BookScan, which is a data provider for the publishing industry, showed her book Basford’s Enchanted Forest: An Inky Quest and Colouring Book, sold 306,923 copies in 2015, finishing 15th in the year’s top sellers.
Enchanted Forest is Johanna’s second colouring book and involves the reader travelling through woodland before finding nine hidden symbols along the way.
At the end of the book the reader must use the symbols to unlock the castle door to reveal the secret hidden within.
It led to £2,135,637.10 being generated in sales.
Meanwhile, another book by Johanna finished 16th on the annual list of best sellers.
Secret Garden, An Inky Treasure Hunt and Colouring Book, sold 291,972 copies in 2015, generating £2,182,863.08 in sales.
A degree in printed textiles from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee paved the way for Johanna’s creative career.
And the talented illustrator never imagined the pictures she drew on the walls of her Aberdeenshire home as a youngster would one day see her being commissioned by global firms, such as Sony, DKNY, Nike, and Absolute Vodka.
In the book charts, Fifty Shades of Grey as Told by Christian, EL James, topped the list, selling 1,078,542 copies, generating £4,743 946.02 in sales.
Grandpa’s Great Escape by David Walliams came second, having sold 607,446 copies making £3,661,434.68.
Others which were among the best selling books of 2015 included Millie Marotta’s Animal Kingdom which sold 453, 487 copies ranking it the fourth most popular book of 2015, and the Guinness World Records 2016, which sold more than 400,000 copies.
