One of the most chilling stories of all time is being given a fresh lease of life for Aberdeen audiences.
The gothic tale of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde is heading for His Majesty’s Theatre – with actor Phil Daniels taking on the title role.
And theatre bosses expect the chilling stage version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s iconic work, arriving at HMT for a week-long run on February 20, to be in huge demand.
Jane Spiers, chief executive of Aberdeen Performing Arts, said: “Stevenson’s classic is a gripping and mysterious tale and Phil Daniels is sure to be brilliant as the gifted Dr Jekyll and sinister Mr Hyde.
“It’s a race against time as Jekyll fights to find a cure for his evil alter-ego who is unleashed during one of the doctor’s otherworldly experiments.”
Phil is one of the most recognisable faces on TV and stage.
He became a household name when he played Jimmy Cooper in the legendary film version of Quadrophenia.
He went on to star in a string of acclaimed 80s dramas, including the ground-breaking Scum.
TV audiences will also know him from his role as Kevin Wicks in EastEnders. Phil has carved himself a glittering stage career, including productions as diverse as Les Miserables and This House, and now as the lead in the UK tour of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde.
During one of his audacious experiments trying to separate good from evil, the kind and gifted Dr Jekyll unleashes an alternate personality of pure evil … the mysterious Mr Hyde.
As this sinister and ominous figure starts causing havoc around the foggy streets of London, the physician’s friends and fiancee grow increasingly worried about him. Jekyll must race to find a cure for his monstrous alter-ego before it takes over for good.
Tickets for the show will go on sale to Friends of APA tomorrow and to the general public from Tuesday next week.
