MSPs have unanimously backed a Motion of Condolence expressing the parliament’s deep regret and sadness at the death of politician Alex Johnstone.
The North-east Scotland MSP passed away earlier this month at the age of 55.
More than 300 people, including leaders from all the main parties, attended the funeral service for Mr Johnstone at Glenbervie Church last week.
Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson hailed the politician as being “such a big figure” in the party.
She told mourners that Mr Johnstone specifically instructed “his funeral be held on a Friday when parliament wasn’t sitting, so the SNP wouldn’t win any votes while Tories were here”.
Ms Davidson added: “That was Alex all over. A team player. Political and partisan, but practical and thoughtful with it.”
