Support for low-income families is due to start six months ahead of schedule.
MSP Kevin Stewart has welcomed news the Best Start Grant Pregnancy (BSG) and Baby Grant payments will be made before this Christmas.
It was announced earlier this week as part of the Programme for Government.
By next summer two further BSG payments of £250 per child will be introduced to help support costs of early learning at two to three years old and at school-starting age.
Mr Stewart, MSP for Aberdeen Central, said: “This is excellent news for families in Aberdeen who will benefit from this money six months ahead of schedule, and before Christmas when household budgets are squeezed hard.
“The Best Start Pregnancy and Baby Grant pays more than the Sure Start Maternity Grant and continues to support lowest-income families,” he added.
