A motorist was caught driving almost five times over the limit at Aberdeen Beach.

The driver, a 35-year-old man, was one of eight charged over the weekend across the north-east in relation to drink and drug driving offences.

He is to appear in court at a later date.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Eight people were charged over the weekend across the north-east in relation to drink/drug and drive offences, including a motorist who provided a reading of almost five times the limit after being stopped on Aberdeen’s Beach Esplanade just after midnight today.”

Road Policing Inspector Neil Morrison said: “Under no circumstances is driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs ever acceptable.

“Innocent members of the public are put at risk because of a blatant disregard for the law and the outcome could prove fatal.”
