Expectant mothers are being encouraged to register for a baby box at their next midwife appointment.
MSP Stewart Stevenson has urged parents-to-be to sign up for the scheme if their baby is due on or after August 15.
The boxes contain various essential items for a child’s first weeks and months.
The Banff and Buchan MSP said it didn’t matter what the background for people applying was.
He said: “For mothers in Banffshire and Buchan coast looking forward to welcoming a new born into the world on or after August 15 this summer, all they need to do to be gifted a Baby Box is apply through their midwife in advance, supplying their preferred delivery address.”
The boxes contain useful items such as clothes, a bath towel, a changing mat, a bib and a thermometer and provide a safe place for babies to sleep near their parents.
