THE way was clear today to start work on a £40 million country club after the Scottish Government gave the scheme the green light.
The Evening Express can reveal Scottish Ministers have backed plans to develop a five-star, 200-bedroom hotel which would also include a restaurant, spa and swimming facilities at Hazlehead Park.
Alan Massie, boss of Aberdeen-based Carlton Rock, the firm behind the proposals, said: “This is great news for the Aberdeen economy and hopefully this will be a fabulous development for the city.
“We are hoping to start work at the end of this year or towards the start of 2016.
“This will bring a big economy boost to Aberdeen as well as new jobs, which can only be positive.”
The proposals, which councillors voted 28-7 in favour of last month, were referred to Scottish Ministers, giving them 28 days to decide if they needed to intervene because Green Belt land is protected under planning policy.
But a letter sent from the Scottish Government to Aberdeen City Council planners states ministers will not “intervene” on the plans.
