SEVERAL million pounds is to be spent on revamping a historic North-east hotel.
The 19th-century Fife Arms Hotel in Braemar will undergo a considerable redevelopment following a pre-planning consultation at the hotel.
Bosses at Highlands Hospitality Ltd, who bought the Mar Road site last year, will spend at least a seven-figure sum on revamping the premises.
Originally built as a hunting lodge, the refurbished hotel will have a wooden courtyard with a fire in the centre and grass hanging over the side.
Under the plans the hotel will have around 45 bedrooms, as well as informal and formal dining rooms.
There is no timescale for the redevelopment of the B-listed building but the owners are hoping to have it open for the 2017 Braemar Gathering.
Highland Hospitality Ltd was set up by Swiss art dealers Iwan and Manuela Wirth.
Iwan said he hoped locals would like the hotel as much as visitors, adding: “We are passionate about restoring the Fife Arms to its former splendour and creating a hotel that will be used by the community as well as international guests.”
