A man today told how a huge blaze ruined thousands of pounds of possessions and threatened his North-east home.
Gary Simpson said he was alerted to the fire which started in the garage of his property on Ellon’s Esslemont Estate, pictured, by the sound of small explosions. It happened at around 6pm on Saturday.
Initially, he thought they were gunshots from hunters but the flames neared the walls of his cottage sending smoke into his living room. His caravan, his Yamaha trike, his grandchildren’s mountain bikes and 400 CDs were all lost.
He said: “It was a big fire.”
He added: “We have lost a lot. I burned my hand trying to get into the shed.”
