Man killed in North-east river tragedy named

A man who who died after his 4×4 was dragged by floodwater into a North-east river has been named.

Michael Atkinson from Banff was killed in the incident at Tillynaught, Portsoy yesterday.

Police have said there are no suspicious circumstances regarding death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Police had been called in relation to a concern for a man in a vehicle shortly after 4pm.

The vehicle was recovered at around 5.30pm and the 23-year-old was flown to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he was pronounced dead.
