Man goes on trial accused of murdering North-east pensioner

A man has gone on trial accused of murdering North-east pensioner Brian McKandie.

Steven Sidebottom, 24, is on trial at the High Court in Aberdeen accused of murdering Mr McKandie at 4 Fairview Cottages, Badenscoth, Rothienorman, on March 11, 2016.

He is also charged with repeatedly striking the 67-year-old with an unidentified blunt implement or implements and robbing him of a sum of money.

Sidebottom denies the charge.

This morning the jury was selected and the trial officially got under way.

The first evidence is due to be heard tomorrow.
