Man fined after assaulting driver who refused to give him a lift in Aberdeen city centre

Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

A man has been fined after admitting assaulting a driver who refused to give him a lift.

Shayne Mollison, 27, approached a vehicle on Aberdeen’s Langstane Place at around 3.15am on October 15 and asked the driver to give him and a woman a lift.

When the man refused Mollison struck him to the face through the open car window.

The man got out of the vehicle and was struck a further two times.

Mollison pleaded guilty to assault when he appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

Gregor Kelly, Mollison’s solicitor, said his client had mistakenly thought the woman he was with knew the man, and that when he declined to give them a lift he was disrespecting her.

He added Mollison was not proud of his actions and “doesn’t see himself as a violent man”.

Sheriff Philip Mann fined Mollison, whose address was given as Strathmore Terrace, Alyth, Blairgowrie, £200.
