A man has died in a house fire in the north-east.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Emergency services were called to a house fire at The Leys, Macduff, at about 5am yesterday.
“Despite the efforts of police and the fire crews who attended, unfortunately a 76-year-old-man died at the scene.
“Neighbouring addresses were evacuated as a precaution, however no other persons were injured and no other properties were damaged.”
Detective Inspector Sam Buchan said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this very sad time.
“Our inquiries have started in conjunction with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service however we do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances.
“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.”
