A motorcyclist has died following a serious four-vehicle crash.

The collision took place on the A98 between Fochabers and Cullen near Deer Park Forest Walk about 6.40pm yesterday.

A male biker died after sustaining serious injuries in the incident which involved three cars on a stretch of road between Fochabers and Bridge of Tynet.

It is not yet known how many other people were involved in the crash or the extent of their injuries.

Police are now appealing to anyone who may have seen the vehicles before the collision to come forward with any information that could help them piece together the circumstances of the crash.

The motorbike involved was a blue and white Suzuki GSXR, and the cars were a silver Vauxhall Astra, a red Audi A3 and a black Vauxhall Corsa.

Sergeant Peter Henderson said: “At this time our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased. I would urge anyone who may have seen these vehicles prior to the collision, or anyone who saw the incident itself, and has not yet spoken to police to get in contact by calling 101 or Crime Stoppers, and quote incident number 3447 of 31/08/18.”

It is understood the A98 was closed from the roundabout at Christie’s Garden Centre on the outskirts of Fochabers, remaining shut for several hours yesterday and it did not reopen until today.

Diversions were put in place locally and the police spokesman said officers were stilll on the scene at 12.30am today carrying out investigation work.

Stagecoach re-routed its number 35 and 38 Buckie to Fochabers services along the B9016 to Keith and then on to the A96 to Elgin via Fochabers.
