A woman from New Zealand is preparing to embark upon a globetrotting “trip of a lifetime” in memory of her dad.
Laura Morrison, 35, is planning to drive from Aberdeen to South Africa in her 1958 Morris Minor, Charlie, raising money for cancer research as she goes.
Proceeds will go to New Zealand Cancer Society’s research division.
She said: “It was my dad’s dream to drive from his birth city to Cape Town, as he had a love of Africa.
“Unfortunately, he never got to realise that dream as he died from melanoma in 2016.
“This was something I always wanted to do as well, so I guess I’m doing it for him and me, and to raise as much money as I can for cancer research.”
Ms Morrison’s father Neil lived in Aberdeen until he was 18.
At that point he joined the Merchant Navy, which put him through University in Glasgow, before he travelled the world on cargo ships.
Her car is expected to arrive in Aberdeen in late May and she hopes to get started on the journey on June 1, the date of her dad’s passing.
