Kingsford Stadium plan snub would ‘send the wrong message’

Russell Borthwick

Snubbing the stadium project would tell investors Aberdeen is closed for business, a business representative has claimed.

At yesterday’s pre-determination hearing, Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce chief executive Russell Borthwick said: “Having a stadium and training complex on one site would position Aberdeen alongside such clubs as Barcelona, Manchester City and Lyon. How fantastic would that be? Saying ‘no’ to this project would create confusion, slow the momentum that we have and simply reinforce the view of (potential investors) that Aberdeen is complacent and not open for business.”
