Almost 400 Aberdeen residents have signed up to a scheme which allows them to boost their savings.
The UK Government’s Help to Save scheme gives people an extra 50p for every £1 they save up to £2,400 – meaning they could get £1,200 free.
The account is available to people receiving Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit or Universal Credit and the latest figures show 389 Aberdeen residents have so far signed up.
They have made a total of 844 payments and saved a total of £31,479.
John Glen, economic secretary to the Treasury, said: “Savings shouldn’t be a luxury, they are an essential part of planning.
“Whether you’re saving for Christmas or a much-needed family holiday, Help to Save is designed to make saving possible for everyone.”
