More than 500 people failed to turn up for hospital appointments last week – and did not bother to call to cancel.
NHS Grampian said 456 of those due to attend an appointment at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary on the week beginning March 11 were no-shows – 6% of all those who booked.
The figure was 87 at Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin – 5% – and 47 at Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital – 6%.

An NHS Grampian spokesman said: “We appreciate circumstances can sometimes lead to patients not being able to attend and occasionally they aren’t able to let us know in advance.
“On most occasions, however, we would strongly urge people to cancel when they know they won’t be able to make it. We would far rather hear from people, even at the last minute. Appointments left uncancelled result in wasted NHS resources, whether that is staff time or unfilled clinical appointments.”
