Plans to resurrect a North-east hotel have been approved.
Members of the Formartine area committee yesterday backed proposals for the Udny Arms Hotel in Newburgh.
The hotel is set to reopen with 12 en-suite rooms and a manager’s flat, while an existing annexe will be demolished to make way for five terraced townhouses.
Closed in 2013 for significant renovation work, the bar and restaurant reopened in late 2013 but the function suite has remained closed.
The premises, including the bar and restaurant, were put up for sale in September 2014, before being sold to ECS Investments Ltd in March last year.
Councillors welcomed to bring the hotel back into use.
Cllr Isobel Davidson said: “While there have been some mixed views on this application I would say on the whole people I’ve spoken to have welcomed something new for this site.”
Cllr Richard Thomson added: “I am pleased to see a construction management plan in place for this site.”
