In Pictures: Thousands take to the road for GoNorthEast Festival

Thousands turned out to visit the GoNorthEast road festival.

The event took place at the weekend in advance of the opening of the AWPR.

The festival offered visitors a range of exhibitions and entertainment on a section of the new road.

As well as viewing the attractions, people of all ages and abilities took the opportunity to cycle and walk along a picturesque part of the new road in the Dee Valley, including crossing the new bridge over the River Dee.

Cabinet Secretary for Transport Michael Matheson said: “It has been a wonderful weekend of activities to mark the AWPR/B-T project.

“I understand it has been a challenging time for those directly impacted by building this impressive project.

“That’s why this festival weekend has been important to us in recognising the patience of local people and communities over that time.

“With the end now in sight, people are starting to see and experience the real benefits.”

Bill Beattie, 60, was one of the 14,000 to attend the event over the weekend.

The Kingswells resident said: “It’s been a great day, I came with the grandkids. The road will be a big help to Aberdeen.”
