Planes in and out of Aberdeen were suspended for several hours today after damage was discovered on the runway.
An Aberdeen International Airport spokesman said “minor surface damage”, which was detected late this afternoon, had prompted the closure.
The runway was reopened just after 7.30pm – but not before a number of incoming planes were diverted to Edinburgh.
We can now confirm that the minor repair work on the North end of our runway has now been completed. The runway is now fully operational.

The airport remained open to helicopters, but no flights were arriving or departing.
Several planes taxied to the runway but couldn’t take off.
