New locations are to be looked at for Aberdeen’s fireworks display, the Evening Express can reveal today.
Thousands of people were left disappointed after Aberdeen City Council cancelled the eagerly-anticipated event due to the weather amid safety concerns.
Around £40,000 had already been put towards event stewards as well as toilet and catering facilities ahead of the display.
And the local authority confirmed it won’t be able to get that money back.
The fireworks, costing an additional £7,500, are now in storage and are expected to be used for another event in the city.
But following the decision to cancel this year’s display due to the prospect of 45mph winds, council officers are looking at potentially moving the display away from the beach.
The event has been held there since 2002, having previously been at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre and Inverdee.
