Beer and bikes might not automatically pair up in people’s minds.
But those keen on pedal power can take part in a cycling sportive again as part of Stonehaven’s Midsummer Beer Happening.
The event is back this June and aiming to draw an even bigger field for its epic 70-mile course from Stonehaven, over the Cairn o’ Mount – and back.
And in addition to the 70-mile route – which saw more than 200 cyclists take part in last year’s inaugural event – there will be a new shorter 52-mile route.
The sportive will be held on Saturday, June 18, as part of the Midsummer Beer Happening, a three-day celebration of beer, food and music held in a purpose-built marquee in Stonehaven’s Baird Park from Thursday, June 16.
Festival organiser Robert Lindsay said: “We are thrilled the sportive is back.
“Both are brilliant courses over some of the most stunning scenery the Mearns has to offer – and, yes, it can be a real challenge.”The event is being backed by both Stonehaven Cycling Club and Bike Remedy of Stonehaven.
Entry to the sportive includes a ticket to the beer festival and entrants must be 18 or over.
