POLICE believe a body recovered from a North-east harbour could be missing man Lachlan Simpson.
Following initial examination of the body, which was found in Whitehills Harbour, Banff, on Wednesday, police today said it could be that of Lachlan.
He vanished after a country dance more than five weeks ago.
The 22-year-old, from the village of Embo, Sutherland, was last seen outside the marquee tent in Dornoch at about 1.30am on Sunday, July 26.
Formal identification has still to be concluded and officers from Aberdeenshire and the Highlands are working closely with the Procurator Fiscals Office.
The family of Lachlan Simpson today said: “Police Scotland has kept us informed of the discovery of a body yesterday and they will continue to keep us updated on progress. We want to thank the public for their support during the search for Lachlan and would ask that our privacy be respected whilst these enquiries are carried out.”
