North-east lifeboat launched after fishing vessel’s ‘sea trials’ cause false alarm

The Misses Robertson of Kintail

A lifeboat crew was called out to reports of a fishing boat in distress – to find it was a false alarm.

RNLI Peterhead Tamar Lifeboat, The Misses Robertson of Kintail, was launched at 2.15pm yesterday after a report that a vessel may have been in distress between the Skerrie rock and Boddam Harbour.

However, the fishing boat on the scene reported to the coastguard that it had been carrying out sea trials in the area.

The lifeboat confirmed that no other vessel was in the area after a short search. It was then stood down, returning to its berth at 3pm.

The call was logged as a “false alarm with good intent”.
